(FIXED) Weather Underground Down – Maybe Polar Vortex to Blame?

UPDATE: apart from a brief glitch around 2013-01-10 08:00 GMT, it appears that, since around 2013-01-10 01:00 GMT, Weather Underground’s system has been back to normal, and consequently ours too. Sorry for any problems this may have caused.

ORIGINAL: It looks like Weather Underground’s whole system is down, which means our system is unable to fetch fresh temperature data for the API or the website. It went down some time around 2013-01-09 20:00 GMT, flickered briefly back to life a few times since then, but currently appears to be totally down again.

We suspect the polar vortex may have something to do with it…

When their site is back up and running properly, our system should start functioning fully again. In the meantime you should still be able to get historical data for most stations through the website or API, just for many stations the last day or two will be missing. Searching for locations (like city names) on our website won’t work until WU’s system is back up, but you can still download data if you enter a weather-station ID (presumably one you’ve used before) and go straight to the “Generate Degree Days” button.
